Temos o orgulho de compartilhar que a GSS está entre as 6 organizações observadoras da Convenção sobre Diversidade Biológica (CBD) que enviaram contribuições técnicas para a consulta sobre o Mecanismo Multilateral de Benefícios de Sequências Digitais da Informação (DSI). Mantendo nossa posição de liderança consolidada com mais de 20 anos de experiência, somos a única consultoria especializada em Acesso e Repartição de Benefícios (ABS) e Biodiversidade participando ativamente desse processo.

Esse é um dos temas mais relevantes e complexos da agenda internacional de biodiversidade. O debate envolve a operacionalização do Fundo Cali, mecanismo criado para viabilizar a repartição justa e equitativa dos benefícios monetários associados ao uso de DSI em diferentes setores.

Em sua contribuição, a GSS destacou pontos essenciais para que o Mecanismo Multilateral de DSI avance de forma clara, viável e efetiva, incluindo:

• definição clara e segura dos termos, como acesso, uso direto e indireto de DSI;

• a importância de regras proporcionais, simples e verificáveis para estimular a adesão das empresas;

• a prevenção de dupla cobrança ao longo das cadeias de valor e em relação a outros instrumentos internacionais de ABS e repartição de benefícios, bem como adoção de uma forma de certificação global de compliance; 

• a proteção à confidencialidade de informações comerciais, financeiras e estratégicas;

• a criação de segurança jurídica para empresas que utilizam DSI em diferentes graus de intensidade;

• o equilíbrio competitivo entre setores, países e modelos de negócio;

• e a necessidade de que o mecanismo gere benefícios concretos para a conservação da biodiversidade, para países megadiversos, povos indígenas e comunidades locais.

Para a GSS, participar desta consulta é contribuir diretamente para a construção de um sistema internacional mais justo, eficiente e conectado à realidade das cadeias produtivas que utilizam a biodiversidade e a inovação científica.

O avanço da agenda de DSI representa uma oportunidade histórica para fortalecer a repartição de benefícios, valorizar a biodiversidade e criar modelos mais transparentes de governança global.

A GSS segue comprometida em apoiar empresas, governos, organizações e comunidades na construção de soluções que promovam o uso sustentável da biodiversidade.

GSS is part of the global discussions on Biodiversity and the new Cali Fund

We are proud to share that GSS is among the six observer organizations of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) that submitted technical contributions to the consultation on the Multilateral Mechanism for the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits from the Use of Digital Sequence Information on Genetic Resources (DSI). Maintaining our established leadership position, built on more than 20 years of experience, we are the only consultancy specialized in Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) and Biodiversity actively participating in this process.

This is one of the most relevant and complex topics on the international biodiversity agenda. The debate involves the operationalization of the Cali Fund, a mechanism created to enable the fair and equitable sharing of monetary benefits associated with the use of DSI across different sectors.

In its contribution, GSS highlighted essential points to ensure that the DSI Multilateral Mechanism advances in a clear, feasible, and effective way, including:

• clear and reliable definitions of terms such as access, and direct and indirect use of DSI;

• the importance of proportional, simple, and verifiable rules to encourage company participation;

• the prevention of double charging along value chains and in relation to other international ABS and benefit-sharing instruments, as well as the adoption of a form of global compliance certification;the protection of the confidentiality of commercial, financial, and strategic information;

• the creation of legal certainty for companies that use DSI with varying degrees of intensity;

• competitive balance among sectors, countries, and business models;

• and the need for the mechanism to generate concrete benefits for biodiversity conservation, megadiverse countries, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities.
  

For GSS, participating in this consultation means contributing directly to the development of a fairer and more efficient international system that is connected to the realities of production chains that use biodiversity and scientific innovation.

The advancement of the DSI agenda represents a historic opportunity to strengthen benefit-sharing, value biodiversity, and create more transparent models of global governance.
